Project Zomboid

Download the full and latest PC game version of Project Zomboid (with Co-Op included) for free, easily, directly, and securely. It’s a nasty survival title with RPG elements and a co-op insider tip on Steam. The modern world has been surprised and overrun by a zombie apocalypse. Food, weapons, and security are in short supply. Water and electricity will only run through the pipes for a few more days. How would you survive in a zombie apocalypse?

Game Overview

Project Zomboid is a horror, survival, simulation, role-playing, and open-world game developed and published by The Indie Stone in November 2013. The game places you in an isometric view in an area that has been completely taken over by zombies. You and your optional fellow players are the only ones who were lucky enough to survive the undead apocalypse and are now given the chance to survive in this harsh world.

The game shines with a high degree of simulation and any small, wrong decision or carelessness can mean the end. It is one of those indie games that is defined by the depth of its gameplay and offers you a great deal of detail and mechanics.

Gameplay

Project Zombiod calls itself “the ultimate zombie survival RPG” and provides you with a huge sandbox in which you can experience your end of the world. Death lurks around every corner, but so does good loot and plenty of adventure. Maintaining the character’s body and mind will keep you on your toes, as will a horde of undead outside the base.

Every action poses a danger and you have to try to keep your group together. Especially at the start of the game, you feel pressured by the situation and the danger of a zombie bite is omnipresent. And the zombie bites are deadly, always.

You expand your base, go on loot tours in zombie-infested towns, and constantly fight for survival on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Just like the squad around former sheriff Rick, where you sometimes don’t know whether zombies or depression are a bigger threat to the series’ protagonists.

Difficulty

As is usual in many survival games, you will be under stress at the beginning. On the “normal” difficulty level, you have hardly any supplies, no weapons, and initially no idea. There is a tutorial, but this only scratches the surface of what you have to consider in the zombie simulation. You only know one thing: you have to survive.

Little by little, the mechanics reveal themselves to you and you understand halfway how survival in the new world works. Again and again, Project Zomboid surprises you with original gameplay ideas that make the game a real apocalypse simulator. There are mini-mechanics everywhere that make the zombie adventure seem deeper and more realistic.

Controls

Using the mouse and keyboard, the controls are reminiscent of point-and-click adventures. Although you can move your character with the keyboard, you use your mouse to check which actions are possible at which point. However, Project Zomboid also offers full controller support, which is well-implemented.

Creating Character

You create a character in the character editor, which you can equip with skills and a profession. This is where the game shows its depth for the first time and provides you with 41 positive and 36 negative traits, which either give you skill points if you choose something bad or deduct points if you choose something good.

Professions

There are also 21 professions, which also cost points but often provide an efficient mix of skills. For example, you can enter the game as a farmer with bonuses to “Fitness”, “Farming” and “Strength” or play as a former burglar who has advantages in the traits “Nimble”, “Light-footed” and “Sneak”.

You create a character, select a spawn point on the map and the terror begins. To prepare you for the start, the game then gives you the motivating lines “This is how you died” at the start. If your character then dies in the game, you have to start with a “fresh” survivor to rejoin the game world.

Environment

In this hostile environment, you need to find a safer place to shelter and expand your base. In the towns, you will find countless more or less helpful items, but also most of the zombies. You grow food, craft new tools, constantly fight the undead, are always on your guard, and can experience first-hand how a zombie apocalypse would affect your life. No other zombie game currently comes closer to a “The Walking Dead” simulator.

Multiplayer

You can play on a private or public server and there is even a local split-screen mode that supports remote play from Steam. On the large servers, high player numbers are possible and more than 100 survivors can fight for the best loot in one game.
