Game Overview
Mafia 3: Definitive Edtion is an action, adventure, and open-world game developed by Hangar 13, and published by 2K games in May 2020 as an enhanced version of the original game. The game is crime-focused adventure, which is set in the American city of New Bordeaux (a city adapted from New Orleans), in 1968. The protagonist is Lincoln Clay, a black man who fought in the Vietnam War, where his journey begins with a major betrayal of the protagonist who will be seeking revenge against the gangs that betrayed him.
Gameplay
The game world is much larger than the previous part and contains more diverse environments from cities and luxurious houses to market buildings, harbors, and swamps. Each area differs from the other in terms of the crimes that generate income for it, such as arms trade or drugs. Each of your allies will help you in their own way, some providing weapons stores and upgrades, while others send members of their group to assist you in combat.
Once you finish each area, you’ll have to choose one of the three bosses who work with you, and in return, they’ll provide exclusive upgrades and services such as bribing cops, depositing money to avoid loss upon death, or delivering cars to your location. The game takes the hassle out of finding gun shops or vehicle locations by allowing you to call for deliveries directly.
The driving mechanics are improved compared to the second part, with better controls and a time-slowing feature that aids in escaping police. The Definitive Edition includes all additional content and stories within the game, such as Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times, which are distinctive additions with interesting tasks that provide greater variety.
Story
The events of the story take place at the end of the sixties in a city with diverse terrain and environments, and you will play as Lincoln Clay, who has just returned home to his family after his participation with the US army in the famous Vietnam War, and events revolve immediately upon his return and accelerate to find yourself on a mission to avenge your family and work to control the entire city from bottom to top. Your mission is to bring new allies and convince them to join you to benefit from them in various fields and make your way in this desolate world to reach your goals.
You play as Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race soldier who has just returned from performing a number of covert operations in the Vietnam War. Returning from the war, he meets Sammie who considers him like a father and Ellis like a brother, welcoming him with open arms.
The story of Mafia III has the best storytelling in the series, which comes in a documentary style, recounting the facts witnessed by eyewitnesses, including the perspective of John Donovan, a CIA agent who tells Lincoln’s story in an investigation before the Senate, and the emotional transformation of Lincoln’s character from the perspective of the father James years after the 1960s.
The story is dark and sad and deals with topics of great importance such as the oppression of blacks in 1960s America, the danger of drugs, and murder and its consequences. It is considered one of the best stories in the series, with distinctive characters worth trying.
