Anyone who has made it through Half-Life 2 – one of the most perfect games ever made – is left with a few trivia questions. Did you actually save City 17? Did hero Gordon Freeman manage to escape from the G-Man? And did Alix Vance, the game’s protagonist, end up on the wrong end of a thermonuclear explosion?

We needed answers, and finally, we got them. Episode One begins seconds after that game’s thrilling finale. But despite the obvious similarities, this is a completely new adventure.

Game Overview

Half Life 2: Episode One is an action, adventure, FPS, and sci-fi game developed and published by Valve in June 2006. Episode One immediately reveals how Gordon and Alyx survive the explosion at the end of Half-Life 2. The Citadel is now on the verge of a second catastrophic explosion, and your goal is to escape through the suburbs. and catch a train out of the danger zone.

Gameplay

Episode One offers more dizzying hack-and-slash action compared to Half-Life 2’s epic narrative. Five hours is enough to get you to the end, but five gorgeously paced chapters are immensely satisfying both in terms of story and the sheer volume of action. You’ll soon find yourself pining for a second episode, but this first episode will never leave you wanting more.

Throughout the game, you will interact with the hero named Alex Vance. According to the story, the game starts exactly where the Half-Life 2 game story ended. The second part ends with a showdown between Gordon Freeman and Dr. Breen, there is a massive explosion in the tower. The new part of the game starts with Freeman and Alex being at the very foot of the same tower and there should be a second stronger explosion, which will cover the whole city. And now, the main characters have only a few hours to leave the city.

The game is saturated with various events and plot twists that happen to the main characters. Constant first-person gameplay clips do not knock down the rhythm of the game, but on the contrary wind it up even more and do not let you lose the dynamics while watching.

Your surroundings are now an active part of the gameplay. You start with an impressive re-entry into the Citadel and must protect yourself and Alix from huge chunks of falling rubble using a super-physical cannon. The puzzles and obstacles look even more believable than the actual challenges, thanks to Episode One’s robust and intuitive design.

The biggest influence, however, is Alix. The charismatic Ms. Vance is always by your side, and your involvement with her makes the game incredibly addictive. Alix isn’t invincible, but she doesn’t need to be wrapped in absorbent cotton either – she puts you to shame with her rugged fighting skills.
