Game Overview
Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is a bundle of 3 remastered versions of the legendary GTA Games (San Andreas, Vice City, III), that has been developed by Grove Street Games, and published by Rockstar Games in November 2021. It’s an excellent opportunity to go on your favorite adventure and look at it from a completely different angle.
The developers have always decided to re-release the three legendary games of the most popular game series at once, and to please their fans. And now, you’ll certainly have the opportunity to enjoy the nostalgia and become the most dangerous criminal again in the three biggest districts at the same time.
Game Story
The story revolves around 3 American characters from different backgrounds, Claude in Part 3, Tommy Vercetti in Vice City, and Carl Johnson in San Andreas. All of them find themselves intimately involved in the world of crime, for different reasons but in ways, and with somewhat similar goals. They all want to live the “American Dream” and establish themselves in society.
The stories presented by the trilogy are considered milestones in taking video games from an unrealistic environment to an art form that rivals cinema. Suffice it to say that at the time of each installment’s release, the trilogy succeeded in attracting audiences who weren’t already fans of video games. That’s how influential GTA was and that’s how it continued to comfortably climb the ladder of glory, becoming one of the most important and influential story games to date.
Gameplay
The gameplay is an open world, allowing free movement. In older installments, missions were required to unlock map areas. Vice City simulates Miami, Liberty City mimics New York, and San Andreas is a blend of Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Each game offers missions involving various criminal acts. This context started primitively with the 2001 third installment and evolved over time. San Andreas has the most side activities in the series. Eating junk food makes your character fat, while going to the gym keeps them fit.
The trilogy’s improvements are not just visual but also gameplay-related. Despite an initial classic feel due to the games’ original production times, notable changes include the addition of a weapon selection wheel and radio stations from later versions like GTA V, making the game more intuitive and modern.
Combat style and movement changes might not be noticeable, but the driving experience has improved. From entering your car, you notice enhanced environmental effects like friction lines on asphalt and rising dust. Cars now remain where you left them longer, unlike the original version where they disappeared quickly. Despite some technical glitches, the enhanced Draw Distance and features offer an acceptable driving experience.
Another feature is a continuous line on the map from your location to your destination, acting like a GPS and simplifying navigation, unlike the original version.
The Auto Save feature means you no longer need to visit a Safe House to save progress. You can also retry failed missions without exiting the hospital or police station after being killed, unlike the original version.
Graphics Enhancements
The studio has enhanced the graphics quality by adding realistic textures and materials to the environment. Small details like wall and floor colors, as well as materials like wood, have been brightened and improved. Vehicle details are now more realistic, with significant improvements that catch the eye and reflect road elements acceptably.
Reflections have been improved, making car headlights reflect better on roads, especially in rainy conditions. Car bodies, particularly in San Andreas, now show reflections of surrounding elements more clearly. The lighting effects have been intensified, affecting both open environments and closed spaces like rooms. Dark places are now clearer and less dark.
Shadows and light effects have been modified to look more realistic. The developers have improved the draw distance, allowing players to see deeper and farther. The field of view is now more open, resolving one of the biggest issues of previous versions. From the roof of the Los Santos Tower, players can now see the entire map, unlike the original version with limited visibility.
Weather effects have been improved, making visibility through dust and storms better. The environment dynamics, like the response of palm branches to wind, have been developed to be more noticeable. Colors are now more vibrant, moving away from the dull and cold tones of the previous version.
Water physics has been significantly developed, making water transparent and its movements more realistic. Underwater details have improved in San Andreas, with better color harmony in water layers. The water surface now shows realistic wave movements when jumping or driving a vehicle into it, unlike the previous version’s semi-flat form.
