Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet is a two-dimensional search. The project was inspired by the work of writer Howard Lovecraft. The story is based in part on multiple stories, but you don’t have to read the primary source to understand it. The story begins in 1834, when Lord Boleskine came to the fishing village of Illsmouth in North America. The astronomer came there because it is the most convenient place to observe the cosmic bodies. A scientist stumbled upon something that drove him crazy and ended up in an asylum.

The main narrative in Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet begins in 1910. John Parker learned of Boleskine’s fate and came to the same settlement as him. There the hero wants to record the passage of Halley’s comet near the earth. But on site, the protagonist faces a conspiracy. The main character has 3 days to find out what happened to the astronomer here over 70 years ago.

The game involves exploring the terrain, chatting with characters and solving puzzles. You have to roam the locations during the day and night. The project has many ways to die: catch a deadly spider bite, fall through a hole in the ground, and so on. It’s even possible to get killed if you don’t solve the time puzzle in time. The reporter has a diary in which he writes down all the useful information he gets during the tour. Its movements are only controlled by the keyboard. The gameplay is occasionally watered down with action scenes.
