Yokai Hunter Shintaro may please fans of old-school games and Japanese folklore. This is a two-dimensional side view action platformer. The graphics and gameplay are stylized like console hits from the late 80’s and early 90’s. This game has pixelated anime-inspired graphics. In the campaign, after completing the prologue, you can choose levels and go through them in any order. Each location has its own theme, unique boss, and soundtrack. The character has a health bar. When it runs out, the player will not be sent to the very beginning of the map, but rather straight to the stage selection screen (there are 8 in total). Enemies are represented by creatures from Japanese myths and legends. Coins fall from defeated enemies.

Yokai hunter Shintaro offers a choice of one of two characters. There’s a guy the game is named after. Also includes a girl named Akane. The protagonist relies on his sword and attacks enemies in melee combat. And his partner prefers to keep the monsters at bay by unleashing Projektayla on them. As the game progresses, both adventurers gain new abilities. In the story, the hero and heroine join forces to restore balance between the human world and the kingdom inhabited by the Yokai. They must also free three holy beasts. The story is served up by animated images with text. Also comes on dialogue scenes with large character sprites (like in visual novels).
