Theater of Carnage has tactical battles in which it is important to make clever maneuvers and crush the enemies on behalf of your chosen faction. The game consists in creating teams of champions in which each character has unique skills and combat abilities. Set in a world of dark fantasy where players must fight in turn-based arenas, armed with bows, swords and magic spells possessed by heroes of the world.

The gameplay in Theater of Carnage takes the form of matches, where before each battle there is a preparation phase: deploy resources, create a team of 5 champions, place units in a specific area on the battlefield and work out a strategy to win. The protagonists make moves based on level and initiative and perform a variety of actions (attack, defend, move, etc.). The main task becomes enemy destruction on a square arena divided by square tiles.

The game features 4 factions with specific strengths, weaknesses, sources of power and ways to use them. Players only have to rely on tactical skills that do not involve chance or dice rolls (it all depends on the user’s precise calculations). Users can complete individual story campaign levels or scenarios, or try ranked battles online or over the local network in hot-seat mode.
