Perfect Tides revolves around a young girl, Mara Whitefish, who lives on a remote island. The protagonist is a teenager going through all the hardships of a transitional age. Her maiden room is a mess, reflecting her unstable inner world. She goes to school on the mainland where she has friends and enemies, spends a lot of time on the internet and texts strangers. Mara has a talent for writing, but even her own mother tells her daughter to get out more and not hang out on the World Wide Web.

During Perfect Tides, the protagonist is forced to move and interact with the characters around her. She’s having fun and getting into trouble with a bunch of other teenagers, hanging out at a game club, dancing, going to sleepovers and even trying light drugs. She gets suitors who don’t always behave sensitively on their own. There is also a close friend who is always listening and can even offer practical advice. The player has to decide for the main character what to do and how to behave – how to react to the laughter behind her back, how to deal with feelings of loneliness. How to behave in society and how to communicate with relatives or townspeople on the mainland and the island.
