LIVE A LIVE is a Japanese RPG adventure whose campaign consists of 7 unique chapters. It is noteworthy that you can complete the levels in any order. Each level has an individual style that allows LIVE A LIVE gameplay to combine elements from different genres such as western, sci-fi and mech. All episodes are represented by individual stories, characters and settings. However, the storylines at the end of the campaign converge at one point.

Gameplay for a specific character can introduce unique mechanics. For example, if you play as a deadly ninja, the gameplay will be oriented towards the spy action, while the gameplay for other heroes can be radically different. After completing all seven stages, two bonus chapters open, which shed even more light on what is happening and bring the story together better. All of the main characters have their own biographies, motivations, and abilities that affect their playstyle.

You have to control a group of fighters moving between different locations. You have to explore cities, descend into dungeons, complete quests and fight with different creatures. You gain experience points and level up for victory. After each battle, the life force of the units is automatically replenished. Battles take place on a 7 by 7 cell field. You can move and try to invent inventive tactics against your opponent. Partner commands must be given via a special menu.
