Japanese Rail Sim: Journey to Kyoto is a video game in the genre of passenger train driving simulation set on one of Kyoto’s most famous railroad tracks. The Eizan Electric Railroad is a popular tourist route that passes alongside many of the country’s iconic structures and through scenic parks and tunnels. In the setting, the gamer cannot leave the driver’s seat and spends all the time in the driver’s cabin.

One of the main features of Japanese Rail Sim: Journey to Kyoto is the unusual graphics. The point is that the events do not take place in the virtual universe, but in the context of the so-called live video. As a result, the player travels the train through pre-recorded clips while getting a full sense of being in that environment. It’s literally the same, only several times cooler, than walking the streets of the city using satellite imagery.

There are two unique trains available in total – the Kirara Sightseeing Train and the Haiku Excursion Train. Each of them has its own technical specifications, such as speed, passenger capacity, as well as a unique and authentic look. The control mechanics are as realistic as possible and require interaction with numerous buttons and levers.
