Homeworld Defense is a casual strategy clicker in a sci-fi setting. In the story, the colonists try to protect their worlds from asteroids. They strive to find the source of the threat so that they can eliminate the problem once and for all. The gameplay is somewhat similar to tower defense games. Control is limited to using the mouse. The user can rotate the camera and place turrets in an area assigned by the developers. They automatically shoot at enemy flying objects when they come into their field of view. The purpose of each level is to survive the given time. Each stage lasts about 5 minutes on average.

In Homeworld Defense you have to protect 10 planets, each with a short description. They are all named after Egyptian gods: Ra, Seth, Osiris, Anubis and so on. The gameplay is based on the grind. To unlock access to the next world, you need to accumulate dark matter. It falls from destroyed meteorites and is given as a reward for achievements. You must manually pick it up from the battlefield. In order to search enough of this resource, you need to repeatedly complete the levels you have already seen. As the player progresses, access to other cannons and their upgrades will open up. Despite fully three-dimensional graphics, the fights take place on a two-dimensional level.
