Hinter invites users to hike through the snowy village of Hinterkaifeck in Bavaria. The story is based on a criminal case that took place in real life in Germany. One day, 6 members of the Gruber family were murdered 70 kilometers from Munich. The developers did not retell the events of those years verbatim, contributing a lot to the brutal incident from themselves. This is where the head of the family, Andreas Gruber, drives. He and his relatives used to raise cattle and liked to visit neighbors. However, their calm and peaceful life did not last long. The story is in text form. The narrative itself is non-linear.

Hinter is a small horror game with elements of walking simulator and first person perspective. The graphics use a 1990’s style VHS filter. The protagonist sometimes comments on their actions and gives hints to the players. In the game you have to walk around the village and its surroundings day and night during the snowfall. You can also visit some houses. The hero has an oil lamp with him. He can interact with the environment, read notes, chat with nephews. When you talk to NPCs you can choose your lines. The dialogues here are quite branched. The plot begins with the main character going outside to get firewood. Soon he hears someone laughing and notices strange things. The story is full of twists and turns. The development of the plot is influenced by the decisions of the players.
