Cut to the Core is a kinetic visual novel. In it, the user cannot influence the plot, which has only one ending. Interactivity is minimal here. The user is only allowed to scroll through windows with text. It is left to the player to passively observe the development of the story and to enjoy the music, atmosphere and images. The game’s graphics set it apart from many other members of the VN genre. It uses a western comic book style instead of anime drawings. The graphics in the game imitate the horror comics of the second half of the 20th century like Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt.

This project takes about 3 hours. Cut to the Core offers a dark story. The plot is as follows. Jack Weir used a surgeon to undergo elective surgery. However, instead of a regular doctor, he ended up with Lacey Scalia. This cranky and wacky doctor has started to perform spooky experiments on her patient. The man has become her helpless victim, with only a tiny hope of rescue remaining. The story develops very slowly at first. It consists of 9 chapters. All of the main characters have their own storylines. Each character also has an individual ending. There’s blood and dismemberment in this game. This title mimics the old horror anthologies.
